FAMILY CHILD CARE

Family Child Care (FCC) offers child care to children and youth from two weeks to 12 years of age. Care is provided in homes located on the installation, and has been certified by the Mission Support Group Commander. One of the hallmarks of the FCC is its ability to tailor the types of care offered to virtually fit every schedule, deployment, or special need.

FCC Providers can care for up to six children at one time. Any of the provider’s own children under the age of eight are included. Providers are limited to two children under the age of two within their care, unless there are only three children total in care.

To request Family Child Care, please visit the militarychildcare.com website. You will need to create a Family Profile and submit a request for care. An FCC Provider will contact you at their earliest convenience. Enrollment paperwork will be provided and required at your scheduled interview appointment with the specified FCC Provider.

QUALITY STANDARDS FOR FAMILY CHILD CARE

All military certified family child care providers are certified professionals who are screened, have obtained favorable background checks, and maintain a DoD Certificate to Operate. Each installation’s FCC program ensures all providers complete a comprehensive training program that promotes developmentally appropriate intellectual, social, emotional, and physical learning.

Minimum Requirements

Be at least 18 years old
Have a high school diploma or GED

DoD Certification

Prior to opening an FCC home, providers are required to become DoD certified. The certification process ensures that:

Providers are held to the same high standard as other CYP professionals
Regulations limit the number of children in care
Children are actively engaged in developmentally appropriate activities
Activities focus on school-readiness as well as social and emotional development
The program operates in a safe, warm home environment

Screenings, Inspections, and Checks

DoD FCC programs follow some of the highest standards for care in the nation. Standards are typically more stringent than State standards, making it easier for applicants who are required to be both State and military certified. Required screenings, inspections, and checks include:

Criminal history background checks for the applicant and all residents over 18 years old
Health screening and proof of immunizations for the provider and residents
Home inspections for fire, safety, program, and health and sanitation
Monthly visits by an FCC staff member to observe, mentor and provide support
Pet certificate if the provider has a pet to show that it has the appropriate vaccinations
Proof of liability insurance

UNLICENSED CHILD CARE

AFI 34-144 requires individuals in family housing (military or privatized) who provide child care in their home for more that 10 child care hours per week to be a licensed provider. A child care hour is the number of hours times the number of children in care.

If unlicensed child care continues, the Base Commander can revoke your privilege of living in base housing,

If you need FCC services ensure the provider is licensed. Each approved home will have a license hanging in the home and a sign on the outside of the home.

FCC PROGRAMS OFFERED

Pre-Deployed Child Care (PDCC)

Allows Active Duty, National Guard, and Reserve members assigned to an Air Force or Joint Base Air Force led installation to receive up to 16 hours (must be used prior to deployment) of care per child for children ages 12 and under. Duty must be in support of contingency operations for more than 30 days. Parents must complete the AF FCC ECC Registration and supply a copy of the orders to the FCC Office.

Extended Duty Care

The EDC program assists parents who have to work extra duty outside of Child Development and School Age Program operating hours. Once reservation and supervisor verification forms are received, a provider is located and child care is provided free of charge to the parent. Parents must complete the AF FCC ECC Registration and submit it to the FCC office.

PCS Care & Volunteer Care

Families PCSing in or out of Edwards, are eligible to receive up to 20 free hours of child care per child in our FCC homes. Simply bring a copy of your PCS orders to the Airmen and Family Readiness Center to get your certificate. The AFRC also sponsors free child care for volunteers. Deployment Child Care (DCC)

Wounded Warrior Care

Wounded Warrior members that need hourly child care to attend appointments. Parents must complete the AF FCC ECC Registration
and submitted to the FCC office for approval.

Medical Care

Experiencing a medical emergency for a family member. Parents must complete the AF FCC ECC Registration and submitted to the FCC office for approval.

Returning Home Care (RHC)

The RHC program offers 16 hours of free care per child to military members returning home from a deployment. Members must be deployed 30 days or more in support of contingency operations. Parents must complete the AF FCC ECC Registration and supply a copy of the orders to the FCC Office.

Subsidy Care

The AF FCC Subsidy program is meant to help with the cost Of child care within FCC homes when the Child Development Center/School Age Program is full. Families must have an active request for care in all CDC/DA Programs, complete Subsidy Registration and submit for subsidy approval; if approved families Total Family Income (TFI) will be calculated and placed in one of nine subsidized categories.

Child Care for Fallen Warriors

Family members who have fallen military members and need hourly child care for appointments. Parents must complete the AF FCC ECC Registration and submitted to the FCC office for approval.
